In previous posts, I’ve reflected on how children are conditioned through literature, but what if I was bluntly calling it “programming”? It’s a thought that adds another dimension to the conversation because, as adults, do we ever stop being programmed? Reflecting on these questions, I’m inclined to say it never truly stops. That concept can lead us deep and the tangents are endless. But where does this leave us? Are we destined to perpetuate static beliefs? The answer, it seems, is both yes and no, a paradox that feels both frustrating and enlightening to me. However, the conscious choices we can make is to question everything about ourselves in order to make a step to provoke a change. Over the years, I often wondered about this idea of conditioning, especially while travelling. Beside capitalism, globalisation and cultural dominance through colonisation being the obvious culprits, I wanted to share a more personal experience with food that gave me insights on this reflection.
